April is shaping up to be an exciting month for sports card collectors! With a variety of new releases hitting the market, there's something for everyone to look forward to. Let's take a closer look at some of the most anticipated releases and what they have to offer. Keep in mind that all releases are subject to change and many of the products currently slated to be released in April will sadly but inevitably be pushed back to May.
Collectors can look forward to a range of card releases that cater to different budgets and interests. From popular affordable products to high-end products that feature basketball, football, WWE, UFC, and soccer, there's something for everyone. So, without further ado, let's dive right in and take a closer look at the upcoming releases.
April 5, 2023: 2022 Panini Limited Football
The 2022 rookie class was initially viewed with skepticism as it didn’t feature quite as many high-end quarterbacks as some of the recent classes. However, with Brock Purdy, Kenny Pickett, Sam Howell, and Desmond Ridder projected to be starters next year, this class could potentially be a goldmine for collectors. The 2022 Limited Hobby release will feature 15 total cards including one Rookie Patch Autograph, one Additional Autograph, one Relic, one Base Parallel and one 2004 Tribute Insert.
April 5, 2023: 2022-23 Panini Contenders Basketball
2022-23 Contenders Basketball is expected to feature two autos per box. The biggest chase cards from this product are the well-known Rookie Ticket Autos, which will feature Paolo Banchero, Chet Holmgren, Jaden Ivey and Bennedict Mathurin among others. Other chases include Lottery Ticket and Permit to Dominate SSPs.
April 7, 2023: 2021-22 Panini Eminence Basketball
While 2021-22 Eminence will actually feature last year’s rookies like Cade Cunningham, Jalen Green, Scottie Barnes, and Evan Mobley. Each box contains 10-cards, 9 autos, and one additional card. This release will likely only appeal to those willing to shell out some serious cash as it is one of the most expensive products on the market.
April 7, 2023: 2022-23 Panini Court Kings Basketball Blaster
Court Kings is best known for its creative looking cards that feature a wide array of colors and an artistic flare. In addition to their creative cards, Court Kings is also well known for having four tiers of rookie cards with Rookie 1 being the most common and Rookie IV being SSPs.
April 7, 2023: 2023 Panini Prizm WWE
2023 Panini Prizm WWE Wrestling is the second edition of the product, but this year it comes with a new format. Joining the Hobby boxes, which average two autographs, the debuting Under Card format offers one autograph and one base variation per box. There is also the online-exclusive 1st Off the Line (FOTL) format with two bonus parallels.
April 12, 2023: 2022 Panini Playbook Football
Beyond just the QBs mentioned above, players such as Kenneth Walker III, Garrett Wilson, Sauce Gardner, Chris Olave, George Pickens and Breece Hall have all emerged as solid to spectacular contributors making this years rookie class highly intriguing. Playbook is best known for its stunning booklets.
April 12, 2023: 2022-23 Panini Donruss Soccer
Donruss Soccer features soccer’s brightest stars in their international kits and will contain one auto and one memo on average. This release will possess the fan favorite Rated Rookies as well as some iconic inserts such as Kaboom! and Net Marvels. As shown on the checklist, there will be an Erling Haaland auto in the mix.
April 12, 2023: 2022-23 Panini Prizm Basketball
Another fan favorite is set to be released in April with Prizm Basketball. The Hobby Box contains 12 cards per pack and 12 packs per box, and look out for two autos, 22 prizms, and 10 inserts per box, on average! Unlike the hobby boxes, the Choice boxes and Fast Break boxes each offer one autograph per box on average.
April 12, 2023: 2022-23 Panini Prizm Premier League Soccer Breakaway
This is the fourth edition of Premier League Prizm and it could feature one of the biggest chase cards of the year. Erling Haaland is set to make his debut as a color blast while in his Manchester City Kit. Boxes feature three Base Silvers, eight Additional Breakaway-exclusive cards and six Inserts.
April 19, 2023: 2022-23 Panini Revolution Basketball
Revolution is set to be one of the more affordable releases of the year so this could be a good get for those who don’t want to shell out thousands. Revolution is also released in two variations, Hobby Boxes and Chinese New Year Boxes. Revolutions inserts are likely the biggest chases here with Supernova and Liftoff! being two of the most well-known. While there are autos to chase, they’re not as common as some of the other releases.
April 19, 2023: Panini Select La Liga Soccer
La Liga Select Soccer releases are rare, and this one is sure to be highly sought after. Hobby boxes feature three hits on average: autos, relics, or autographed relics. With representation from 20 La Liga Clubs, the set includes 250 base cards grouped into subsets of Terrace, Mezzanine, and Field Level, each with unique parallels. You'll also find inserts like Equalizers, Select Stars, and Unstoppable.
April 19, 2023: Panini Select Serie A Soccer
Unlike previous years where European Leagues were combined, Panini is releasing Italian Pro League Serie A Soccer in a standalone Select Release this year. The configuration is the same as La Liga, with three hits per hobby box and three subsets of base cards with their own parallels. However, Serie A also features four unique, ultra-rare inserts: Stained Glass, Artistic Impressions, Visionary, and Team Badges, with one of each per case on average.
April 21, 2023: 2021-22 Panini Flawless Basketball
Panini is celebrating the 10th anniversary of one of its highest-end releases with another stunning edition of Flawless. Top players like Luka Doncic and Steph Curry are featured in on-card auto relics. The Logoman makes its return and will certainly have the hobby abuzz. The biggest hit of them all will almost assuredly be the one-of-a-kind Triple Logoman card featuring last year’s rookies. Hobby boxes are $10K, so this is a pricey one.
April 21, 2023: 2022 Panini Contenders Optic Football
Football collectors are eagerly awaiting the Contenders Optic release, which is even more desirable than its standard Contenders paper cousin due to its premium chromium stock. Look out for Optic Rookie Ticket Autos featuring players like Kenny Pickett, Kenneth Walker III, and Garrett Wilson. The set includes various base and parallel versions like Silver, Red /175, Teal /99, Blue /75, Orange /50, Green Pulsar /30, Cracked Ice /22, Red, White, Blue /13, Gold /10, Neon Marble /4, Nebula /2, and Gold Vinyl 1/1.
April 21, 2023: 2023 Panini Stars and Stripes Baseball
Panini claims that this release has the "largest grouping of unique players autographs ever," featuring eight international teams, such as U-18 Baseball World Cup and Collegiate US National Team Training Camp members. Expect a prospect-focused licensed release with not only numerous autographs but also some impressive patches.
April 26, 2023: 2022 Topps Chrome Platinum Anniversary Baseball Hobby & Lite
This all-Chromium hobby release pays homage to the 1953 design and starts at $130/box. Look out for the rainbow of colors, including new shades like Platinum Toile White/Blue Refractor /199, Platinum Toile Cream/Fuchsia Atomic Refractor /199, Platinum Toile White/Green Refractor /99, Platinum Toile Cream/Rose Gold Refractor /75, Platinum Toile Cream/Gold Refractor /50, Platinum Toile White/Orange Refractor /50, Platinum Toile Cream/Black Refractor /10, and Platinum Toile Cream/Red Refractor /5. The auto checklist features veterans such as Vladimir Guerrero Jr., while the rookie auto checklist includes an abundance of Wander Franco rookie autos.
April 26, 2023: 2022-23 Panini Crown Royale Basketball
Collectors can pursue various Crystal editions in this die-cut only release, such as Blue Crystal /99, Red Crystal /49, and other hobby-only parallels like Pink Crystal /75, Purple Crystal /25, Gold Crystal /10, and Platinum Crystal 1/1. New inserts like Hand Crafted and Pillars of the Game are included, along with classics such as Rookie Royalty and Test of Time.
April 26, 2023: 2022-23 Panini Select English Premier League Soccer
Select Soccer print EPL Soccer this year, much like the La Liga and Serie A editions. The three-hit-per-box format remains the same in this year's release of EPL Soccer by Select. Auto inserts like Pitchside Signatures, Select Signatures, Signatures, and Autographed Memorabilia will feature top stars like Erling Haaland.
April 28, 2023: 2022 Topps Chrome Road To UEFA Nations League Final
Anyone who collects soccer cards will want to look out for this release. It is on the less expensive side at only $155 per box. Collectors will chase the always topical Gavi in his Spain kit, with the “national debut” logo (an RC alternative). The release includes 15 different base refractor parallels, from the base (one in every three packs on average) down to the SuperFractor 1/1, and also features international superstars such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Erling Haaland.
April 28, 2023: 2022 Topps Definitive Baseball
Inside this hobby box, collectors can expect to find six on-card autos along with two non-auto relics. With more than 10 different auto subsets featuring top MLB veterans and rookies, each with low serial-numbered parallels, this release promises to be a hit among collectors.
April 28, 2023: 2022 Topps MLS Renaissance Soccer
Major League Soccer has shown enough growth in popularity that Topps is Topps is expanding its offerings with the release of Renaissance Soccer, a premium one-pack-per-box release featuring one premium card per pack. The product appears to be similar to Topps' "Dynasty" line, with each box containing one encased autograph relic (#'d/20) or encased foil autograph card (#'d/20).
April 28, 2023: 2022 Panini Prizm UFC Hobby
You can purchase a hobby box of 2022 Prizm UFC for approximately $250. Each box includes 12 packs with 12 cards in each pack, totaling two autographs, 22 parallels, and 12 inserts. The release includes popular Prizm favorites such as Color Blast, as well as new Throwback Signatures featuring legendary UFC fighters. Also, be on the lookout for the debut of Hasbulla.
